I don’t keep up with the latest trends. And Element55 has been working with this technology for a little while. But I have become more acquainted of late with VMWare, and it impresses the hell out of me. Not because of its long feature list - because it took me all of five minutes to get started with my first virtual machine, and four of those minutes were spent waiting for the software installer. No RTFM - just runs.

And for such a sophisticated piece of software, managing multiple “virtual” machines - each with their own operating system, complete with boot record! - running simultaneously and without hiccup, I am completely bowled over by the short (60 second as it turns out) learning curve.

I know web services that take longer than this to get started with. SAAS my ass - it’s about well-designed software, no matter what the delivery vehicle or pricing model.
